APER WA eligibility
To apply for accreditation on the AIRAH Professional Engineer Register
(APER) for Western Australia, you must provide evidence that you have the required
qualifications, knowledge, and professional experience and competence.
The eligibility requirements for APER Western Australia were set to exceed the
international standard for engineer registration and are aligned with the
requirements of the Building Services (Registration) Regulations 2011 (WA)
requirements for Registered Professional Engineer of Western Australia.
To be eligible for AIRAH Professional Engineer Register (APER) Western Australia
status, you must:
1. Hold a relevant qualification
Have completed an acceptable qualification in one of the disciplines of
engineering. Acceptable qualifications include a:

Four-year, full-time bachelor’s degree or a Master of Engineering from an
accredited Australian institution;
- Part-time equivalent degree;
- Previously recognised historical equivalent qualification;

Qualification gained elsewhere that satisfies the requirements of the
Washington Accord
for recognition as a Professional Engineer.
2. Have relevant experience
Have been working in the field of mechanical engineering – HVAC&R
building services for a minimum of five years post-graduation, have the
relevant work experience, and be able to demonstrate that this has
translated into competence and commitment in your discipline.
3. Provide references
Have two other suitable engineers vouch for your work experience.
4. Meet CPD requirements
Be able to demonstrate a commitment to the engineering profession by:

Having undertaken 150 hours of continuing professional development (CPD)
over the last three years;

Continuously complying with the APER
Code of Professional and Ethical Conduct.
Please note that Western Australia has some CPD requirements above the minimum required for APER Registration. Post APER endorsement for ongoing Western Australian re-registration and compliance you may also be required to meet the Western Australian CPD requirements in addition to the above for APER.
