Insights from Cold Hard Facts 4 and Evidence Based Leak Rates

One of the most significant areas of uncertainty hindering the development of effective refrigerant policy relates to refrigerant leak rates from various types of equipment. While everyone seemingly has an estimate, these are not grounded in evidence and are insufficient to convince government to act.

Refrigerants Australia and the Expert Group are working together to develop robust, evidence-based estimates of leaks rates for refrigeration equipment. This presentation will detail how the estimates were derived, present the leak rates found, analyse how these leak rates compare with others used in policymaking (such as NGERs and other greenhouse reporting), and canvass how the Australian government might use this data to develop focused regulations.
