AIRAH WA Members' Annual Lunch

Join AIRAH’s WA division to celebrate our annual WA Members’ Lunch, featuring a presentation by John Curtin Distinguished Professor, Steven Tingay. An astrophysicist and Executive Director of the Curtin Institute of Radio Astronomy (CIRA) at Curtin University and Deputy Executive Director of the International Centre for Radio Astronomy Research.

Steven will present “The Square Kilometre Array: probing the Universe from Western Australia”. The Square Kilometre Array (SKA) will be the largest radio astronomy facility ever built, when construction is complete in 2030. Operating as two complementary telescopes, in South Africa and Western Australia, the SKA will tune into radio waves generated when the Universe was young, soon after the Big Bang, 13.8 billion years ago. Technically, the SKA faces a number of challenges, due to the harsh environment in which it will operate in the Murchison, WA. He’ll talk about the science, engineering, and organisation of the SKA project.

This event will include canapes on arrival, a two-course meal, beverage package and opportunity to network with approximately 150 industry representatives.
